Freaking. Out.
Today has not been good. I managed to not only achieve nearly nothing on my list of things I wanted to do but I also managed to destroy one of the servos in the pan tilt unit which now needs replaced. Mike has lent me one for the time being and I think I’ve fixed things but it still feels like I have taken the baby-est of baby steps forward today. So, let’s recap (mainly for my own...

Very late adding this to the blog. Bad Pablo. Anyway, enjoy this rather rubbish summary video about Make Mk1. In hindsight, I’m not sure I actually get any of the points across that I need to/should make. Oh Well.

Technology Fail.
Can one piece of technology PLEASE work like it’s supposed to today. Currently tasks which should take 10 minutes are taking 4 hours. I hate studio kit.

Shoes
I’m not normally one to love clothing enough to talk about it. But this range of Nike trainers are awesome.

Katy managed to pick up some IR LEDs from Maplin when she was home over the weekend for me. After successfully blowing up two of the few seven I had I succeeded in creating an ‘IR pen’ - i.e: an empty biro with an LED and a resistor soldered together inside. Now I have a constant, non-flashing, IR source (but still without my second stepper motor) I can start building the second part...

Fun times with Emma
Spent the weekend away in Aberfoyle with Emma. For valentines / Christmas she bought me a voucher for GoApe, a ‘in-the-trees’ adventure park with Scotland’s longest and highest zip line! We went there during the day and spent the night in a lovely little hotel in Callander. I also ate a fish which was served with a head. Freaked me out a little but was yummy. The following day...

Questions about making my project
Graham asked us this morning to answer some questions as regards our project in a bid to help us think a little about the direction our ‘Make Phases’ are going. What will it do / what won’t it do? Make Mk1 (MM1) is about creating the ‘first versions’ of the elements; prioritising on the moveable rig and the iPhone app as I feel those are the key aspects of the project - if a basic...

Today was the day I forgot about my degree and did...
After the success of documenting my work throughout the Zoom Phase I am disappointed to realise that I have all but stopped writing about what I’m actually doing or the thought processes I have been going through. Just now a lot of my time has (stupidly) been spent working with some of the others on advertising material for our Degree show Fundraisers (‘Tache Bash for those not in the...

7 hours later...
This is the result of seven hours worth of work with the IMD PR team for our upcoming fundraising event, ‘tache bash (Twitter and Facebook - please follow and if you’re Dundee based come to the event!). They need to go to print by 10am tomorrow (this?) morning with half the class not having seen the final products. Obviously we could only photograph the people left at the end of the...

Durrell Bishop speaks about physical computing,...
Durrell Bishop ,co-founder of LuckyBite and the only person to have graduated from both Industrial and Interaction Design at the Royal College of Art in London (read as ‘really knows his stuff’), gave a very interesting talk to us today in the studio. He primarily talked us through his previous work but also spoke about physical interaction, skills and visualising systems/services;...

Snowboarding in the Cairngorm Mountains. Yay.
Had a brilliant (post hand-in) weekend in the north of Scotland. Went to Inverness on the Friday afternoon to meet Emma who had been up working on Thursday. The drive, although long and lonely, was pretty good fun. Just before leaving Dundee I stopped off at the end of Blackness Road near Ninewells Hospital to take some pictures overlooking the Tay. I also gave my recently acquired (read: borrowed...
